Community Service

“Heart to heart Blood donation campaign”

About the project

The campaign was jointly organized by Rotaract and Leo clubs of Pamunugama and was held on 09/01/2011 at St. Joseph’s church premises Pamunugama. Donating blood over the years has been valued and recognized in the highest esteem the world over. It’s been very popular in Sri Lanka due to the 3 decades of war that prevailed in the country. Even though peace is in abundance which the whole country treasures so dearly, the demand for donated blood has not diminished significantly. In such conditions the two clubs joined hands in order to ease

The burden on the blood bank.

Objectives

The main objective was to ease the pain of a fellow human being whose life depends on transfusion and to bridge the gap between the Pamunugama community and the Rotaract club. The news was greeted ecstatically by the parent club who in fact was of immense help in making the event a success in terms of providing the refreshments for donators, providing financial baking in announcements around the village and so on.

The event was advertised using posters provided by the blood bank and by announcing via mobile speakers. The motivation that drove the members was the buzz around the whole village especially in the last week of preparation. It was 100% positive the project committee had to refine the estimations couple of days before the project in order to avoid scarcity of refreshments.

What we gain from doing this project

The day of the campaign was a day the members of the clubs would never forget, there

Was a 100% attendance form both clubs and 90% of the members from the Rotaract club of

Pamunugama donated blood at their earliest to cater the needs of the outside donators. There

More than 70 outside donators and doctors and nurses had their work cut out. The campaign

Lasted from 9.30 am until around 2.00 pm with several Rotary members attending as well.

The president and the members were astonished by the togetherness and understanding within

The members of Rotaract club.

It was later concluded that this particular project was one of the most successful out of all

The community service projects carried out by the Rotaract Club of Pamunugama in their 7

Years of existence. In doing so the club was successful in bringing the community together,

Building a long lasting relationship with a fellow club and continue to receive praise from

Everyone it inspires.

“Human kind cannot bear much reality.”
